About
The Yorkshire Judo Association is a family run organisation and one of the largest independent clubs in the UK. We teach Judo and Self Defense to all, with ages ranging from 4 to 80 years old. The club has run for over 30 years under Sensei Gary Donoughue (7th Dan). In that time we have taught over 3,000 students.
Philosophy
Our philosophy is based around enjoyment and safety whilst instilling the original principles of Judo initially taught in Japan. We have a direct lineage to Dr. Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo.
Judo is not about size or strength, it’s about using your opponents energy against them. It is about learning respect and discipline, but most of all it’s about having fun.
Affiliation
In 2005 the club had the honour of being asked to join the ‘Goshin Ryu Association’ for martial arts, one of the biggest international organisations of its kind. Gary was made the ‘Master of Judo’ and now represents the sport across the world.
